Thank you to everyone who came along to our latest meeting. It was a really exciting session, with big decisions about the future of the group and our first look at Pride in the Moorlands 2027.
Becoming a constituted group
We were joined by Emma Ford from Support Staffordshire, who explained the different types of constituted group available to community organisations like ours. After some discussion, we agreed that a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) looks like the best fit for Pride in the Moorlands.
As a CIO, the group would need at least three trustees, including a chair, a treasurer and a secretary. We would hold at least three meetings a year plus an Annual General Meeting, and the people in these roles can change each year.
Some members were worried about too much responsibility falling on a small committee, and we’ll keep that in mind as we work out the details. On an informal show of hands, though, everyone present supported becoming a constituted group. It’s a real milestone for us, and it should help us grow, apply for funding and make Pride in the Moorlands sustainable for years to come.
What happens next
We’ll hold an online meeting before our usual monthly meeting to work through the details of the constitution. We then plan to vote on the constitution itself at our November meeting. If you care about how the group is run, please come along and have your say.
Pride in the Moorlands 2027: save the date!
Next year’s Pride will take place over the last weekend of June, Friday 25th to Sunday 27th June 2027.
We’ve started gathering entertainment ideas across four areas:
- Cheadle, Biddulph and our rural communities
- The Foxlowe
- The Butter Market and Silk Street car park
- The parade
These ideas are being written up and will be shared with members soon.
